The week of November 1st-5th

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to November! Hard to imagine that we are already here! Just getting ready to take my boys out tricker-treating tonight. They are very excited, the weather looks decent, so we should have some fun tonight.

I had a nice opportunity to visit with some good friends Saturday night. I had my 35th birthday party! We were pretty low key, we enjoyed good food and drink and the men watched the destruction of the Calgary Flames by the Washington Capitals. As an Oiler fan, that was a nice present:)

I had a chance to go through 7C and 7D's Math tests today. I had a feeling going in that both groups were a little unsure about a couple of the concepts that we were testing. I was right. I feel that I didn't adequately prepare the kids on two concepts in particular; order of operations and problem solving. As a result I will use this last test as "formative" information. In other words, last week's test will not count towards the report card, but will provide us with some information as to where some of our deficits exist. We will revisit these concepts in class and re-test this unit on Friday, November 5th.

Math: We will also have the opportunity to begin our "Travel Agent" activities in Math this week. I am very excited to see the vacation packages that students are going to put together! As stated earlier, we will re-visit the concepts of problem-solving and order of operations. Friday, November 5th we will re-test.

Science: We are part-way through our Animal project presentations this week and will continue through the first few days on those. We will also move toward that last section of our first unit on Ecosystem interactions. Students should be prepared for a Unit exam before the Remembrance Day Break. Some news on the Textbook front... Although we are unable to access the textbook for Science in Action 7, we are able to access notes for each section of each unit! Science in Action Notes!

Have a great week everyone!

David
